How can I help?
Teacher's Aids and Resources
The Delapaz Elementary School is operated by a Principal and Teacher staff
that have been properly educated in the Philippine university education system,
but have been thrust into a system that is ill supported. The city schools
fair much better than the rural schools because the students of city schools
come from parents of more influence.
By USA standards, the teachers are under paid. Salaries are in the USD $300 per month and increase with seniority. When you have a situation where the students can't afford to contribute, the system can't contribute, and the teachers can't contribute, there is no where to go except to external sources. DEAWF is an external source. While DEAWF cannot change nor does it want to change the curriculum of the school set out by the Provincial government and Philippine government, we do want to augment the teachers with teaching aids and support as much as possible.
English is taught in the Philippine public education system starting in elementary school. Partial exposure starts at the first grade with studies continue in earnest from the third grade onward. The universities in the Philippines use English as the language of communication, thus the teachers can read and write in English, though the spoken English may be a little rusty at times if not well exercised.
Teachers and parents, if your school is going to surplus teaching manuals and aids that are still functional and useful, please consider our application.
The Delapaz teachers operate on a "shoe string". The teachers are in as much need as the students.
16 teachers & Principal, Vice Principal. Average class size 40 students.
